夜闖伯爵府的是卡德魯斯,伯爵的裁縫老朋友兼前杜加橋客棧的老板.他進伯爵府為的是偷取錢財,并非害命.他是和同伙安德烈亞子爵(也就是貝內(nèi)代托)一同策劃來作案的.但貝內(nèi)代托是為了讓伯爵發(fā)現(xiàn),并殺死卡德魯斯.因此提前通知了伯爵他們的計劃,這樣伯爵就假意離開,其實在府上靜觀其變.最后的情節(jié)是卡德魯斯被伯爵發(fā)現(xiàn),向伯爵行刺,但反而被伯爵坳斷了胳膊.伯爵讓他從爬窗進來的地方出去,要放他走.但卡德魯斯在著地的時候被假裝望風的貝內(nèi)代托用刀刺死.
